Eilean Donan Castle winter wedding
Eilean Donan Castle winter wedding
An Eilean Donan Castle winter wedding can sound like a bit of a gamble weather wise, but with amazing timing and a breeze ruffling the most stunning dress it was perfect for Ellie and Andrew. It’s no secret that I adore my job photographing weddings and elopements in the north west Highlands of Scotland, on the Isle of Skye and the surrounding islands, but when the chance comes along to photograph a family wedding at one of the most gorgeous wedding venues, Eilean Donan Castle, my love for my work increases exponentially!
I photographed Ellie and Andrew’s engagement images in October 2018. Complicated schedules meant we shot early one morning as they arrived on Skye and I departed later that day to Iceland. The light and the rainbow show it was clearly meant to be!
And then the day of the wedding… surrounded by family and friends this adventurous and athletic couple tied the knot with nods to their heritage, their shared past and wild partying to celebrate their future. With long and deeply felt family roots on the Isle of Skye there was never any doubt that Ellie and Andrew would marry in the Highlands and Eilean Donan Castle was the perfect setting for their wedding day. The entire day was like a joyous ceilidh in which the couple swept everyone along with their infectious happiness and enthusiasm for life and love, along with moments of raw emotion – look out for Ellie’s grandfather speaking in Gaelic at the wedding – the father and daughter dance that brought the whole room to tears!
It could not have been a greater pleasure to photograph and share the joy of this day.
